The Florida International University Chapter of The Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi presents awards to distinguished students from The Honors College at FIU.

The PKP/CURFIU Awards
The Conference for Undergraduate Research (CURFIU) at FIU is open to all FIU undergraduate students and is the largest multi-disciplinary research conference at FIU. The conference features poster presentations by top student researchers. The FIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter sponsored the CURFIU awards which recognized the top student research projects at this conference.  The judging was made by a select group of esteemed FIU faculty researchers.  Here are the 2019 winners:

Joel Greenup
2016 Honors Research Award Winner

Joel is currently conducting research as an ARCH fellow not only at FIU but also at the University of Miami as well as with a team from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He intends to continue his current research on Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, a series of interconnected neurological conditions, by completing an MD-PhD.

Michele completed research under Dr. Robert Lickliter in the FIU Psychobiology lab. She presented her research on Spatial Exploration with Bobby white Chicks through the ARCH program.  From this research, she earned the Presidential Award, which funded her Ph.D. in the FIU Clinical Psychology program.

Dean’s Excellence Award
This award is presented to a student who exemplifies academic excellence, dedication to the welfare of the university, and integrity and philanthropic concerns.

Joanne Ling
2016 Dean’s Excellence Award Winner

Joanne is a current Junior majoring in Public Administration. As a first generation student, she has taken her education very seriously while cultivating an interest in social justice, public health, and international relations. She is a member of the FIU Model United Nations team, and is this year’s Director General of FIMUN, FIU’s High school and Middle School Model United Nations conference. She recently returned from an internship in Washington, DC, with the International Rescue Committee where she worked with refugees from across the world resettling in the United States. She is one of eight inaugural Capital Leaders of the Capital Leadership Experience, a cohort of Worlds Ahead students under FIU’s Washington DC office where they work to build leadership and solution making.

Amira is a founding member of the City Year Miami Women’s leadership luncheon, an event that has raised over $250,000 to help support more tutors, mentors and role-models in the highest need schools in Miami-Dade. She is also the founding board member of EmergeUSA, a national civic organization focused on helping Muslim Americans
